Teaching Trunks are designed to make learning fun with hands-on use of artifacts in your own classroom.  Each trunk includes lesson plans, artifacts, copies of historical documents, and other information for you and your students to explore.

We offer Teaching Trunks for FREE, but we suggest a $20 donation to help cover costs of up-keep.

Learn all about the first encounters that Europeans had with Oconee County.  This trunk also teaches about the Cherokee people who inhabited this area before Europeans discovered North America. Arrowheads, pottery shards, and replica items are included in this trunk.

Textile Times Teaching Trunk

Learn all about textile history in Oconee County and in the Southeast.  This trunk features artifacts from local cotton mills, as well as some real cotton for the students to examine.  The lessons include how the mills operated, as well as how people lived in the mill villages.  This trunk is perfect to incorporate in a unit on the Industrial Revolution!

Civil War Teaching Trunk

Learn all about the events that led up to the Civil War and why the Civil War is so important to U.S. History.  This trunk also features the efforts of local soldiers in the Confederacy.  Copies of Civil War era letters, maps, dress-up uniform, flags of the Confederacy are included in the trunk.
